Subject: Studying in Mali
Hello,
I'm a senior at Oberlin College in Ohio and I'm applying for a Watson
Fellowship for next year that would allow me to spend time traveling around
the world studying the architecture of nomadic communities. Since Mali is
home to some of the largest numbers of nomadic and semi-nomadic people in
the world, it is naturally a top choice destination.
While I have read numerous books and essays by anthropologists and
archtiectural historians, I don't have any contacts in Mali who might be
able to help me make contact with nomadic communities once I arrive.
Would anyone at the embassy be able to point me in the direction of people
in Mali to talk to, perhaps university professors or local officials who
have contact with nomadic people?
I would greatly appreciate anything that you could do.
Thanks,
Scott Ewart
