Dear Mr Fofana,

I have the pleasure of inviting you to a program carried out by the ³Permanent Committee for Africa², recently constituted within the Gruppo CERFE (an Italian not-for-profit Research organisation in consultative status with ECOSOC), with the aim of contributing to the work of the United Nations strategies for the African continent.

Among itıs own activities the Committee co-ordinates the project Digital Diaspora
Network for Africa (DDNA), proposed by the United Nations Information Communication Technology (ICT) Task Force www.unicttaskforce.org

The DDNA project is also carried out by Digital Partners (a Seattle based not-for-profit
organisation working on utilising the advantages of the digital economy to benefit the poor all over the world) and has the collaboration of UNIFEM (the United Nations Fund for Women that promotes womenıs empowerment and gender equality).

The project aim is to establish a network of experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and
managers in the field of ICT, of African origin living in Europe and North America,
and mobilise them to give their support to improve the transfer of information and
communications technology and the return of relevant skills to African Countries in
the framework of the work of UN- ICT task force.

CERFE is currently working to identify potential participants to the European
branch of the Network. We are thus looking for professionals, experts, entrepreneurs
of ICT, of the African Diaspora present in Europe, who are ready to work as
volunteers, to be integrated actively in the formation of the European side of the
Digital Diaspora Network for Africa.

The first meeting of the Promoting Committee of the European Branch of the Digital Diaspora Network for Africa (DDNA) project, proposed by the United Nations ICT Task Force, will take place in Brussels on September 27, 2002 in the premises of the DG for Information Society of the European Union (from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm).

During the Brussels meeting, the mission programs and operation of the network will be further elaborated and a core-group for the establishment of the European Network will be nominated. Furthermore, the meeting will be an occasion to have a broader discussion on the African Diasporas and their contribution to development of Africa.

Considering the relevance of this initiative, we are pleased to invite you to participate to the meeting of the Promoting Committee, which will take place in Brussels on September 27.

We are drafting a discussion outline of this initiative and we will send it to you before the meeting.
I will appreciate if you could let me know if you will be present at the Brussels meeting using this address: <ddna@gruppocerfe.org> .Please do also send us your CV.

Given the voluntary character of the network, the participants are expected to bear their own travelling expenses. We will be anyway happy to provide any assistance you might require in booking accommodation in Brussels.

We would also appreciate if you could indicate us some other candidates in Denmark that could be interested in joining the network, of African origine in the ICT sector; or who could refer us to other relevant individuals, organisations, research centres, universities that deal with the same issue.

We thank you in advance for your collaboration and you can contact us at this
E-mail: ddna@gruppocerfe.org as well as : cerfe@tiscalinet.it .You can also access the web-site still under development of the DDNA at the www.ddn-africa.org

I take this occasion to let you know of the existence of an e-magazine, ³African
Societies², that we recently launched and that you can accessed at the web site
www.africansocieties.org

Hoping to hear from you soon, I send you my best regards.

Yours sincerely,

Alfonso Alfonsi
Coordinator of the DDNA Project for Europe
