CALL FOR PAPERS: VOLUME 2 NUMBER 1
Peacebuilding and Development Challenges and Opportunities in Africa
The Journal of Peacebuilding and Development, a new tri-annual refereed
journal providing a forum for the sharing of critical thinking and
constructive action on issues at the intersections of conflict,
development, and peace, is calling for papers for its first issue. This
volume IV will endeavor to capture and examine critical peacebuilding and
development topics and questions that challenge our era in the African
context, including:
Development policies, processes and outcomes: implications for conflict and
peace
Social and economic policy: conflicts and possible resolutions
Identities and relationships in conflict and development
People-centered development in divided societies
Governance, human rights and human security
Building peace through health and education
Globalization: impacts, trends and agency
Reconciliation and justice
The economics of war and peace
Actors and partnerships for action
Development assistance, humanitarian disasters and peacebuilding
Poverty elimination, violence prevention and building a structure of peace
Strategic approaches to building peace and sustainable human development
Cross-cutting themes: power and empowerment; the role of culture, women,
minorities and other marginalized groups; theory, rhetoric, policy and
practice
Articles submitted to the Journal should be original
contributions. Please clearly indicate if article is under consideration
by another publisher at the time of submission. Articles are read by 2-3
outside reviewers and the editors. Briefings are also read by one
reviewer. Articles covering the following categories will be considered:
Critical Themes and Case Analysis critical case studies and/or thematic
discussion and analysis of topical peacebuilding and development
themes. 7,000-word maximum, including references and endnotes.
Briefings discussions of 1) training, peacebuilding and intervention
strategies and impact, 2) policy review/analysis, or 3) Country
briefings. 1,600-word maximum.
Book Reviews 1,600-word maximum.
Resources notices of new books, reports, conferences, videos,
e-communications and websites. 150-word maximum.
Documents Declarations, communiqués, other relevant NGO or multilateral
organisation statements. 1,000-word maximum.
Each manuscript may be submitted either by e-mail, if possible, or in Word
format. If submitting by regular mail, document should be typewritten,
single-spaced, and on PC-compatible high-density 3½ inch diskettes, with
each diskette labeled with the author(s)s name(s) and title of
article. Any diagrams and maps should be submitted in Word format, or in
Tiff format. Tables may appear in the text, but do not apply frames or
tints. One hard copy of the main articles should be sent to the below
Zimbabwe address. Copyright of articles published in the Journal rests
with the publisher.
Abstract Deadline: August 1 (the earlier the better, given September 1
full article due date); late submissions may be considered given our need,
or for our fifth issue. Please send abstracts to: Erin
