With all the respect, I *strongly* disagree with you two. Men are
circumcised mostly in hospitals since or even before the '60s in hygienic
conditions and under local anaesthesia. The operation for men is also proved
to prevent infections in tropical conditions. Think about sterilty.
For girls, it is an incredibly traumatizing mutiliation done exclusively in
traditional conditions. Most of the time the girl is so young and the lady
who performs the operation take a particular pleasure in terrorising her. I
don't think any male parent approves it but they pretend to not know about
it and absolutely not be involved. Can cowardice be defined otherwise?
As far as I am concerned, Mali should simply ban female circumcision.
Period. Only girls above 18 or 16 should be allowed to decide to undergo the
operation in clinical conditions.
But instead, in Ma;i we prefer to accommodate the elderlies and the people
with more clout at the expense of children and the future.
